Stuart Brownlee Farrar

Stuart Brownlee Farrar, of 234 Sunrise Drive Afton, Virginia, received God's perfect healing on may 12, 2012.

She was born on August 24, 1923 in Augusta County Virginia, daughter of the late Clarence W. and Emaline H. Brownlee.

She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church where she was very active on many committees and taught Sunday school for many years when she was younger. She graduated from Waynesboro High School and in 1945 married Garnett (Pete) Farrar. She and her husband were owners and operators of Farrar’s Riverside Market in Afton. Also for 29 years she baby sat for many, many children which she dearly loved and they all called her "Grandly". She especially enjoyed the outdoors when camping, fishing and tending to their garden. Later on in her life she moved her garden to the deck where she would plant vegetables in planter boxes and care for them when she was unable to get out in the yard. Being with her family and friends was her greatest joy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Garnett (Pete) Farrar, three brothers Emmet Brownlee, Lyle Brownlee, and Thomas Brownlee; three sisters Caroline Rice, Jean Glenn and Kathryn Brownlee.

She is survived by two daughters, Becky Martin and her husband Jimmie, Betty Sheffield and her husband Joey all of Afton; and one son Woody Farrar and his wife Denise of Waynesboro. Survivors also include her grandchildren: Chip Martin and his wife April, Troy Martin and his wife Vickie, Jessica Sheffield Bullard and her husband Christopher, Travis Farrar and his wife Hope, Lindsey Craig and her husband Justin and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one nephew, Berkeley Glenn, Jr. and one niece, Jean Paxton (Patti) Glenn.

A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday May 16, 2012 at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Michael Embrey officiating.

The family asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to kidney research, University of Virginia, PO Box 80013322908 attn: Bob Young, Charlottesville, Virginia 22908. Please note on the check Dr. Kambiz Kalantari—research; or to the Rockfish Valley Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department, c/o Kenneth Lee, 11100 Rockfish Valley Hwy., Afton, Virginia 22920.
