Julia Godfrey Johnson, 65, of Waynesboro, VA, and formerly of Clifton Forge, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 14, 2012, surrounded by her loving children.
She was born March 23, 1947 in Eagle Rock, VA, a daughter of the late Charles B. Godfrey, Sr. and Gaynell (Burks) Godfrey. She was a Certified Nurses Assistant for over 20 years, and retired at UVA Health South. She was a member of Jackson Memorial Church of God in Christ in Iron Gate, VA. She served as church Mother and Sunday School Superintendent at Temple of Deliverance in Charlottesville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Ray Johnson, a brother, Nelson Godfrey, and 2 sisters: Mary Young and Brenda Arnold.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Carnetta R. Chambers of Fishersville; John W. Spinner, III of Waynesboro; Gaynell C. Spinner of Norfolk; Angela N. Swingler and husband George of Waynesboro; Julia Maylon Spinner of Waynesboro; brothers: Edward Godfrey and wife Dreama, Earsey Godfrey, Charles Godfrey, Jr. and wife Lillian, all of Clifton Forge; 10 grandchildren: Rondale, Quania, Joseph, Jonathan, Tishanna, Mirakle, Summer, Vincent, Alexandria, and Trinitee; 4 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at McDow Funeral Home, Waynesboro, and other times at 105 Woodlyn Court, Waynesboro.
A service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday at Main Street Baptist Church, 920 Main St., Clifton Forge, VA. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park in Covington.
