Wilbur Francis Dettweiler

U.S. Veteran

Wilbur Francis "Junior" Dettweiler, 71, of Waynesboro, VA, went very peacefully to his heavenly home on Monday night, May 21, 2012, at Envoy of Staunton. He has suffered from Parkinsons Disease for the past 25 years.

He was born August 31, 1940 in Bristow, VA, a son of the late Catherine Frances and Wilbur B. Dettweiler.

He was a very loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a very hard worker and provider. Wilbur was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving for four years. When he came out of the service, he moved to Waynesboro, Virginia and worked at Early Dawn Dairy, Thiokol, Kroger and then went into business for himself as owner and operator of Dettweiler's Roofing.

On November 8, 1959 he married Lois Cramer, who survives.

He is also survived by children: Donna N. Marshall and husband Richard of Waynesboro; Oscar Rodson of Standish, Maine; Sharon D. Yoder and husband Gilbert of Union Grove, AL; Esther Y. Maher of Corbin, KY; Susan D. Wilhide and husband Brent of Madison, AL; Nathaniel W. Dettweiler and wife Kimberly D. of Union Gove, AL; Timothy H. Dettweiler and wife Drew G. of Schuyler, VA; and Crystal D. Piper and husband Daniel J. of Vinton, VA.

Additionally, he is survived by 21 grandchildren: Megan Marshall, Chris and Stephen Rodson, Rebecca and Brandon Smith, Vanessa and Ben Hanger, Ben Yoder, Joseph, Matthew, Kevin and Andrea Maher, Brooke, Meghan, Brent II, Julia, Jacob and Joshua Wilhide, Sarah, Logan and Olivia Dettweiler, Orion Dettweiler, and Abigail Piper; 2 great-grandchildren: Elliott and Mason Smith; a sister, Kathleen Ball; a brother, Daniel L. Dettweiler; sister-in-law Mary Y. Dettweiler; 2 special cousins: Joan M. Davis and Linda D. Bodkin; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two daughters: Melody Elisabeth Dettweiler and Sylvia J.L. Rodson; a son-in-law, William J. Maher; three brothers: Edward D., Roy C. and Harold R. Dettweiler.

A Service will be held at 12:30 P.M. Friday, May 25, 2012 at McDow Funeral Home by Rev. Mary Boyne. Interment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro, with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 340, where he was a past member and commander.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P.M. Thursday at McDow Funeral Home.
