Delbert E. 'Speedy' Hite, 94, of Staunton, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012.

He was born May 13, 1918 in Montebello, a son of the late Ollie and Elah Fauber Hite.

Speedy retired from the military after over 30 years, serving during WW II, Korea, and Vietnam. Following retirement he was a co-founder of the Virginia Defense Force in Staunton and Lexington. He was a member and past-president of the Staunton Lions Club. It was Speedy's hope that he would be remembered as a good man.

Also preceding him in death were sister, Regina Citta; and brothers, Maynard and Reid Hite.

Surviving are his wife, Jo Hite; a son by a previous marriage, Curtis Hite and granddaughter Lauren; step-daughter Victoria Medley and her son Joseph; sisters, Marie Whitmore, Iva Chambers, and Irene Jennings; numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 11, 2012 in the Chapel at McDow Funeral Home by the Rev. Lynwood Wilkes.
